News: Rage 2's first gameplay trailer is a carnival of carnage

Bethesda has blown the lid open on Rage 2 this afternoon with an action-packed gameplay trailer, offering an explosive first look at the id Software and Avalanche-developed sequel.

Set in a dystopian world where society and law have all but abandoned ship, Rage 2 plonks gamers on a desolate earth where 80% of the population have been wiped out by an asteroid.

Gangs run rampant and what’s left of society crumble under the iron fist of tyrannical leaders, known as the Authority.

That’s where you come in. As a Walker, one of the last remaining Rangers of the wasteland left for dead and homeless, you attempt to stick a middle finger at the Authority by blowing stuff up with all manner of barmy weapons and vehicles throughout a massive open-world battlefield.

Along the way you’ll pilot everything from monster trucks to gyrocopters; if you can see it, you can drive it, apparently. Your Walker can also upgrade weapons and dish out punishment using Nanotrite and Overdrive powers.

The Wasteland offers a diverse range of areas to explore, from sun-soaked deserts, lush jungles, and hazardous swamplands, and you’ll have to battle against various factions comprised of all sorts of blood-thirsty critters to wrestle back control of the region.

Rage 2 is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in 2019.
